'Website Optimization'

Another SEO Blog (or is it?)

May 16th, 2007

Folks,

If you’ve been spying on us (and if you’re serious about SEO, you should be), you have probably noticed some changes that hint at our new ‘released’ technologies. Primarily we modified some of our descriptors. XSEO is now our acronym for “Exploratory” SEO, this better reflects what we do at relaXSEO.com. Also we thought it best to think more in terms of “Social Engine Optimization”. While we have not abandoned the ‘old’ SEO methodologies entirely, we have positioned ourselves for Web 3.0 (or “Super Mega Web” as I like to call it).

What will the new web bring? We think it is a ‘no brainer’ … people want more relevant search results for their search terms. Keyword stuffing, cloaking, linkbait, it’s become the order of the day for most SEO’s and the result … it has harmed the integrity of SE’s like Google ™, they go to great effort to detect spam and try to keep the SERP’s relevant. I am sure they hate constantly policing against these techniques.

Well Folks, All that is about to change! If you are participating in these deceptive methods … you’re gonna get buried real soon! Here is our recommendation: Be honest (duh), accurately describe your site, if people are interested in what you have they will come, else they won’t (I don’t really need to tell you this; do I?). Yes, this puts more pressure on you to develop unique offerings - add more value than before and consider your prospective customers needs carefully. It’s hard work but the truth is, it is the only way.

As for our new Technologies … you’ll need to become a client to gain access to those … but when we tell you what the geniuses in our think tank have recently developed, you WILL ask yourself; self (you might say); How do they think of this stuff? The answer is simple, we don’t sleep, we barely eat and our mouse hands are throbbing from the amount of surfing and research we do. In the end, you benefit from our tireless search for the future of SEO.

That is enough for now … as usual, you will find that there is a lot of great stuff on the site, we make you search for it … but it’s there. Have fun, enjoy … and you will learn something new if you take the time to explore.

w.blogger died - relaXSEO.com

May 12th, 2007

I’ve seen a rise in the RSS subscription rate so I guess I am now obligated to keep these going. w.blogger is giving me some strange error and I didn’t want to take the time away from Tonights post to troubleshoot.

First, I read Today (or was it Yesterday) in SEOFeed (I think, I read so many articles in a day) that Web 2.0 was over and done, that it was time to get ready for Web 3.0. My first reaction was; we need a better name for it. Whatever it is, my thoughts are hopefully we completely move away from machines determining the relevance of web content, in other words I think Web 2.0 was a balance between bots and humans deciding what was cool … and hopefully Web 3.0 (aw c’mon can’t we call call it ’super mega web’ or something) will be a purely people driven thing. I really like BlogBridge and think that tool is cutting edge stuff.

This brings me to the point where we were unsure if we should talk about this experiment, our results aren’t really in yet but it’s a bit of a ‘no brainer’. I’ll start here: Ready? While the RSS spec does contain <category></category> … or tagging if you will, it is rarely used. My first shock was to see this at Amazon and in BlogBridge (BlogBridge also has rating) so I dug into the suggestions for RSS tagging and found this form [<category domain=”http://del.icio.us/tag”>foo</category>]. That makes sense for del.icio.us but I think the larger question is does generic tagging work ie. www.mydomain.com/tag/ rel=foo? This is one of the many things we’re testing and I promise the results shortly.

We do a lot of testing with Autodiscovery and see huge potential for the RSS extentions ‘category’ and ‘new’ … just look at what Amazon is doing and it should be pretty clear that XML-RPC and RSS can do it all, simply and elegantly.

I guess that’s all for now - we don’t get many comments so what the heck, why don’t you click and tell me I am full of it or something? Oh, this kinda shaped my view of Blogging and sharing our experiments … I saw Fishkin explaining that the reason they got started in the ‘Info’ part of SEO was because it was a struggle any other way. I agree, we don’t expect to compete with the big boys (have I mentioned recently that Bruce Clay is just a few blocks down the road from here) but perhaps a few folks will find our research interesting and spread the word. We are proud of our little think tank. I can speak for all of us when I say we love our work, we are [ex]-engineers so we thrive on the pressure.

Well, that’s our Blog for Today. Sure would be interested in your experiences with RSS-SEO.

Up All Night - relaXSEO.com

May 9th, 2007

I gotta get some sleep but not before I take this Blog live. This will no doubt be part rant, part info - I received an email from someone (I would love to throw their name out here) who told us that some of our pages were broken in IE 5.0 ………….. huh? I thought to myself, with the amount of experimentation we have been doing lately, I would not be surprised if his browser burst into flames when it hit our site :-P We are full steam ahead with some new ideas and they totally rock.

Last night I heard from an associate that socializer 2.0 was down and the page stated that they were getting slammed by bots, I did not see the page personally but it shows how much activity there is on the XSEO front. Now socializer 2.0 is a site that if you are not currently using it, then you need to go find another Blog to read, perhaps one that tells you to send emails and beg for backlinks. It’s that different these days, LSI keyword Analysis, Tag Analysis etc. etc. etc. The old ways … well we keep our interns busy with that stuff.

OK, back on track about the fools who bite the hand that feeds them, one thing we are not is Black Hat … sure we are taking risks but only because it’s new ground, we are not sure if or when we’ll get burned but we are kind to the 2.0 sources that deliver the killer stuff. Anyway, I LOVE IT! I thrive on this kind of excitement especially when we see some of the things we’ve seen come from it.

Again, if you explore the site and perhaps scrape some pages, you’ll see what we are up to … yeah, yeah we take risks so that you don’t have to … blah blah. Just watch us.

OK, nighty night. till next time.

Technorati - We Love You

May 7th, 2007

Folks,

We do a lot of experimentation - hence the term XSEO. We basically take risks so that you don’t have to. So I wanted to discuss some of the things we are up to here at RELAX SEO Services, not a lot of implementation detail but some interesting results. Right now, we have pretty good indexing at Google ™ but suddenly, we wound up with a lot of pages in supplemental and the referrals from Google went down substantially … So we had to ask ourselves if we care … and the answer is “no”. We have the keywords we want, which means the ‘on the page’ optimization is alright but more importantly, we are actually getting more hits from Technorati and StumbleUpon than from G these days. I am pleased with this, it means that our pages are important to people, not machines (spidies) and that is exactly what we set out to do from day one. The only reason for putting the site on the web was to try our new ideas for Web 2.0 SEO (XSEO), we actually had clients long before we had this website.

Another interesting observation is del.icio.us is currently throttling us (and I guess begging us to stop trying to connect to them), the only thing I can think of that would cause this was a script from hell we installed about a week ago … it came from a German link building site. This script generated massive errors just from mouseMoves over the page. If you want to know who distributes this little dandy, just contact me and I’ll tell you who to stay away from … as I said before, we take the risks. As I have mentioned time and time again, the clues are all on our site. This is how it works: We brainstorm an idea, then we pick an existing page on our site to test with, so if your watching carefully you will see stuff pop up on the page. If we obtained the desired result … it stays, else we cut it loose. Point is it could be anywhere in our structure, we just pick a page and go.

All in all, we’re happy (we don’t worry - we RELAX). With regards to the G controversy, I once said “Absolute power corrupts absolutely” … OK, maybe that was somebody else who said that but time will tell if Google is really pulling a fast one or not. :-P
