Web 2.0 SEO MindMap
April 28th, 2007Folks,
While the SEO MindMap originally started as a way to inventory our resources, it quickly became a means to collect cool Web 2.0 observations. We hoped that other SEO’s would collaborate with us to create a complete representation of the new methodologies. Most are beginning to see that it really is a new playing field.
We recently had an experience that totally blindsided us. We literally sat looking at the screen in utter disbelief. How could one simple move create that many links? We started to drill down on the value of the massive quantity of links that came overnight and we found that we had good anchor text … and that many of them were PR 3’s with some domains being in the 7’s.
We didn’t stick to our normal schedule for the day, it was HTML compliance day but we were pretty well caught up on this so we went about trying different things. We spend a lot of time in tag research lately. We have also been doing a pretty good job of documenting new sites/resources in the MindMap so we took a look at the latest entries and there it was - Yahoo! MyWeb was the latest effort and wow did it seem to pay off. We had an idea what might have happened so we started going to other sights that supported the same things MyWeb supported and we were correct … it worked for every site we tried!
Thanks to the MindMap we found something new that works every time and we are working on a small piece of JavaScript to help speed things along. Once we finish the script and complete testing, there is a pretty good chance that we will just make it available in the forum, we haven’t decided yet.
The MindMap is in it’s very early stages for us but the advantage is clear and we definitely consider it one of our most valuable tools. It’s free, it’s easy and doesn’t require a lot of maintenance but man are we glad we started using it.
